Can’t send or receive emails on my iPhone or iPad because the email app keeps displaying the error “Unable to verify server ID”? This may be due to the email app not being able to communicate securely with the email provider’s server. For example, if your email provider’s Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate has expired or is not trusted, you will get this error.
Other factors such as software bugs, poor network connectivity, server downtime, and temporary system malfunctions can also cause your email app to display this error. Here are some solutions that fix the error of the user who encountered the problem. Similarly, we list other effective solutions found from personal experiments.
First of all, make sure you have an active internet connection. Open a web browser and see if you can access any web page. This will help you determine if the Internet is functioning properly. If the connection is okay, one of the solutions listed below should work magically.
Close and reopen the email app
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the iOS app switcher. For iPhones and iPads that have a physical home button, double-clicking the home button will bring up the app switcher. Then swipe up until the email app disappears from the screen.
If you continue to see the error when you reopen the Mail app, try the following troubleshooting solutions.
Switch to cellular connection
According to some iPhone users in this Apple discussion thread, error messages only pop up when accessing email over Wi-Fi. Surprisingly, switching to mobile phones or mobile data solved the problem. If you continue to see the “Unable to verify server ID” error on your Wi-Fi connection, switch to cellular data and reopen the Mail app.
Restart your iPhone or iPad
Rebooting the device will fix a temporary bug where the email app can’t verify or identify the email server.
Move to setting >> >> Universal >> >> shut down Move the “Slide to power off” slider to the right.
Wait approximately 10-20 seconds for the device to shut down. Then press and hold the side button to power cycle. Then enable cellular data or join the Wi-Fi network and launch the email app to see if you can send and receive emails without error messages.
Check the status of your email provider
If there is downtime on your email client server, the email app may not be able to verify your account ID. Check the status of your email provider’s server using a third-party outage monitoring tool such as DownDetector.

Disable Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption
Some iPhone and iPad users have successfully resolved the “Unable to verify server ID” error by turning off Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption for their email accounts. Try it and see if you get the results you want on your device.

Disable your account and then re-enable it
Temporarily disabling the offending account can trigger your email account and check your email client’s server. This action deletes your email account only from the email app, not your device. This is what you need to do:

- Toggle off Post option.
- Wait about 10 seconds, then Post Turn the option back on.
This will prompt the email app to sync and reconfirm your email address from the beginning. If the issue persists, delete your email account (see the steps in the next section) and reconnect from scratch.
Delete and re-add email accounts
Removing the offending account from the Mail app also removes the account from your iPhone or iPad. This troubleshooting technique has fixed an issue for some iPad users. Here’s how to delete your account on your iPhone or iPad:
